Our Dogs
You’ll see photographs of our dogs throughout the web site. Each one, like children, has a unique personality and an interesting story:

Maya, a sleek and feminine German Shepherd, brings an international flair to Ultra Paws owners Lisa and Steve Paxton's family with parents of Czech descent. Born on Halloween 2006, Maya has a gentle disposition and a protector's spirit. If her companions are threatened, she's unafraid to unleash a thunderous bark while the hair stands up on her back! Maya's favorite pastimes include lengthy walks, extended belly rubs, and scenic car rides. She particularly enjoys teasing Logan, her Yellow Labrador brother, by playing keep-a-way with his favorite toys. Very tragically, despite an emergency C-section, Maya lost her litter of puppies in 2009. Maya's stoicism, however, in the face of adversity has served as an inspiration to us all. Currently, Maya is the primary field tester for all of our dog gear. |

Frankie, more formally known as Francis Floyd Douglas, derived his name from of all places, a sidewalk inscription. Owned by Joe and Emily, who appear in some of our photos, this charming pug's simple life is made meaningful by canine themed television and the anticipation of his next meal. More than once, Frankie has vocally protested his favorite program, The Westminster, expanding the roles of those large, white, fluffy breeds he detests so much. Sadly, frequent attempts to meet his televised canine brethren behind the entertainment center have thus far proved fruitless.

Maggie, a miniature schnauzer, dutifully fulfills her role as the family's matriarch. Born in 1999, Maggie never doubts her ability to athletically match her younger canine siblings, Logan and Maya. Even at 70+ people years, through sheer tenacity, she often does! Maggie's inclination for active walks and car rides is balanced by her love for a good snuggle on the sofa. Ever vigilant, Maggie's never turns down an opportunity for a good chase. As long as it moves, it will generally suffice as prey! For a smaller breed, Maggie's appetite is enormous, and, in moments of Ultra Paws owners Lisa and Steve Paxton's inattentiveness, exercises its wrath upon the portions reserved for her siblings. Often times, Maggie supplements her diet with the offerings of nearby apple trees. |

Riley, born in 2007, is one of the most sociable and playful dogs we've ever known, even for a golden retriever! A member of customer service representative Vicki's family, Riley's fortitude was tested at a very young age by a fearsome battle with hookworms, and her survival is a testament to her character. Taking a refreshing dip in the lake, meeting fellow pooches at the nearby pet lodge, and chasing Furbie, the family cat, make up the elements of Riley's ideal day. Each and every one of her barks is an unabashed exclamation of canine carpe diem! |
 |
Buddy, an Australian Shepherd, came to customer service representative Aimee's family at their daughter's behest. Having known him since eight weeks of age, we can safely say that Buddy is peerless in his role as companion and family protector. Buddy is the first to know when their epileptic child is entering an unconscious seizure and works diligently to rouse the family in alert. Though he's always been a sociable friend, Buddy displays a particular affinity to small children, infants, and those with special needs. In addition, Buddy displays many playful tendencies, and is always striving to learn new things. |

Don't be fooled by that speckled grey snout of Tyler, our eight year old golden retriever! As evidenced by his joyful frolicking through the forests and fields of northern Minnesota, Tyler possesses a youthful exuberance which belies his actual age. Though ever willing to flash bursts of energy to younger pups, Tyler has also mastered the art of canine leisure. On laid-back days, Tyler can often be found laying in the hostas of his grandparent's backyard or lounging near the lake while digging for rocks. Often times, Tyler’s tail will unconsciously wag while he’s curled up in his doggie bed as if to simply exclaim “I’ve got it good!” |

Don't let those charming looks deceive you! Ms. Lola Latte, a Golden Doodle treasured by Carol of our marketing department, redefines the word mischievous with her boundless energy and cavalier spirit. Many an electric razor, bars of soap, and rolls of toilet paper have met their demise by way of Lola's misbehaving maw. Always the adventurer, Lola prefers her recreation active, whether she's cannon ball diving into the family koi pond or enjoying a good roll in the mud. At less than a year old, there's still hope that the passage of time will curb her youthful exuberance. Even so, Lola's spunk never fails to invigorate her family, even at their most fatigued. |

Logan, a Yellow Lab, came to Ultra Paws owners Lisa and Steve Paxton's family with an ominous message from his shelter manager, who said "we never thought someone would adopt him." Having witnessed him devour solar lights, rugs, patio furniture, and toys, we've come to understand the shelter's sentiment. Despite his omnivorous tendencies, his endearing brown eyes and gentle demeanor make him nearly impossible to resist! Logan's energy is seemingly limitless, whether he's attacking his toys with reckless abandon or playfully chasing his sister Maya around the yard. To harness this energy, we have been teaching Logan how to pull a sled. As a dog whose paws tread several miles each day Logan is an ideal field tester for our dog boots.
